What is it that keeps you focused? I heard someone say YOLO the other day and I thought -
what is it that keeps someone living their life as if this is the end?
You only die once too.
The bible says that there will come a time when our bodies are no longer ours and we will
return to dust. Death is the one thing that no matter where you are in your beliefs is real. It
shakes us to our core. Dealing with death is challenging for those who remain because we also suffer the death of relationships, goals, and what would be. We know that at the end of this life, we know nothing about what is to come.
But if you are a believer in Christ, you will have another opportunity to live again.
That's what the bible says. This is the good news. This is the point of the Gospel. That a man
was born here on Earth and fulfilled a multitude of prophecies and in the end sacrificed himself to supernaturally present another option. We now have the biggest option within our freedom of choice mankind has ever experienced. We have the power to believe in Christ. And, if that's not enough... Christ walked this earth with no sin. He was kind, patient, forgiving, wise and loving. The option that we are presented with asks us to be like Him. To make a choice to believe this is not just a folktale, fantasy novel but that it actually happened.
In religion, many are told that they must perform. They must be good people and do good
things. We are told this and it is good. But then we are told we do not receive divine approval without perfection in what we call good. But, the upside down kingdom of Christ is different.
It’s not about doing a bunch of good things - even if those things are in His name. These are
good - these are necessary in some instances, but our focus must be on the life of Christ, and the directions He gave us. If we choose to believe that Christ is our savior, literally saving us from our one and only death, then how should we live our lives?
Out of love shown through the opportunity to receive something we didn’t deserve, we show
Him love through obedience now.
In preparation for something better--a better life, in the presence of the almighty. Yes, Jesus!
I’m not saying that it’s bad if you lived scared of stepping out and decided to go for it. I’m saying there’s a misdirection of focus here - living as if you only live once is the opposite of the how we are supposed to approach life.
“Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.”
