Five Ways to Honor God in Your Business

As Christian entrepreneurs, we often express a desire to honor God through our businesses. We acknowledge that God has blessed us with the gifts, talents, and skillsets that enable us to generate an income. From leads to clients, opportunities to sales, and even the initial calling to start the business, we recognize that it all comes from Him. Naturally, we want to show our gratitude and love by honoring God through the companies we’ve created. But what does it really mean to honor God through our business? Does it mean offering faith-based products or incorporating scriptures into our branding? While those are great, I believe honoring God is about more than these outward expressions. It extends into how we operate, how we treat others, and how we steward the resources entrusted to us. Below are some practical ways we can honor God as business leaders.

Presentation

God is a God of excellence, and as His image-bearers, our goal should be to reflect that excellence in how we present our businesses. Whether it’s through typo-free communications, a well-designed website, or professional marketing materials, the small details can make a big impact. Presenting our business with excellence demonstrates God's character and shows that we care about what He has entrusted to us. Everything, from how we engage on social media to how we package our products, to how we format documents, should aim to represent God well in the marketplace.

Work Ethic

Running a business is hard work, and over time, it can become easy to slip into complacency. We may find ourselves trying to “just get things done” or rushing through projects. But how we work and the effort we put into our business matters. Giving our best effort—even when the tasks feel mundane—honors God. We are reminded in Colossians 3:23-24 to work heartily as if we are working for the Lord, not men. Even in our busiest times, staying diligent and seeking help when needed are ways we can honor Him through our work ethic.

Giving

God’s Word emphasizes the importance of giving, and this extends to our businesses as well. We can give financially through tithes, offerings, or charitable contributions. Beyond money, we can give our time through mentorship, internships, or volunteering. Offering pro bono services or discounts to those in need can also be impactful. Whatever form our giving takes, it should be Spirit-led and given with a cheerful heart (2 Corinthians 9:7).

Customer Service

Another way we can honor God in business is through excellent customer service. This goes beyond thank-you cards or having a smooth onboarding process; it’s about how we treat others. We are called to treat others as we want to be treated and to demonstrate the love of Christ in every interaction. This includes how we answer phone calls, respond to emails, show up to meetings, follow through on promises, and generally treat customers as humans rather than transactions. Each of these actions is an opportunity to reflect God’s character.

Time & Stress Management

Owning a business is a blessing, but it can also be overwhelming if we aren’t careful. God wants His children to experience His peace, which means we shouldn’t be stressed, anxious, or burnt out. By making time for rest, self-care, and soul care, we not only take care of ourselves but also ensure we’re in the best position to take care of others—including our clients. Trusting God with the work He’s given us and allowing ourselves to experience His peace is another way we honor Him.

Honoring God through our business is an act of worship. It's about offering our best out of adoration of Him and gratitude for what He has called us to do. While it may look different for each person and business, these tips serve as a starting point to help us ensure our businesses reflect God’s glory as we work “unto the Lord.”
