Choosing the Right Marketing Platform for Your Business: A Faith-Based Approach

The Importance of Marketing

Marketing is the lifeblood of any business. It's how you connect with your audience, share your message, and ultimately drive sales. But with so many platforms available—social media, email marketing, podcasting, blogging—how do you choose the right one for your business? As a Christian entrepreneur, seeking God's guidance in this decision can make all the difference. In this blog post, I'll share how God led me to choose the platform for me and provide practical ways to find the best marketing platform for you.

My Story: How God Led Me to a Platform

At the end of last year, I was laid off from one of my highest-paying jobs. While this was a significant change, I felt God's grace lifting from that role and sensed He was guiding me towards something new. During this transition, I focused on building my business but struggled with marketing, especially social media. I already had a love-hate relationship with social media, often getting caught scrolling for hours or comparing my journey to others.

When I finally started to use social media for my business, I spent two weeks creating 30 pieces of content that didn’t convert. I knew this approach was not sustainable for me. God revealed my strengths and led me to podcasting, a platform that aligned with how He created me. Podcasting allowed me to create authentic content, connect deeply with my audience, and repurpose content efficiently—all while honoring my need to guard my heart from the negative effects of social media.

Seek God’s Guidance

Before diving into any marketing platform, spend time in prayer and seek God's guidance. Ask Him to reveal the platform that aligns with your gifts and the message He has placed on your heart. Trust that He will lead you to the right tools and strategies for your business.

Three Ways to Find the Best Platform for You

  1. Does It Come Naturally to You?

  • Reflect on your natural strengths and talents. Are you a natural writer? If so, blogging or email marketing might be your best platforms. Do you enjoy creating visual content? Social media could be the right fit. If you're a natural speaker, like me, podcasting or YouTube might be ideal. Choosing a platform that aligns with your natural abilities will make content creation more enjoyable and sustainable.

  1. Is It Easy for You to Understand and Teach Others?

  • Whatever platform you choose, it should be one you can easily navigate and explain to others. If you find a particular platform confusing or cumbersome, it might not be the best fit for you. The easier it is for you to understand, the more effectively you can use it to market your business and teach others about your products or services.

  1. Does It Generate the Right Results?

  • Consider the outcomes you want from your marketing efforts. Are you looking to build brand awareness, generate leads, or drive sales? Make sure the platform you choose can help you achieve these goals. For instance, podcasting has allowed me to authentically connect with my audience and share valuable content, driving both brand awareness and revenue.

Things to Keep an Eye Out For

  • Consistency: Is this a platform you can consistently create content for? Consistency is key in building an audience.

  • Repurposing Content: Choose a platform that allows you to repurpose content. For example, if your primary platform is Instagram, can you repurpose that content for your email list?

  • Audience Location: Ensure your audience is on the platform you choose. Are your clients and potential customers on LinkedIn? Go there. Are they more active on Facebook? Head there.

Different Marketing Platforms

  • Social Media: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter

  • Email Marketing: Mailchimp, Constant Contact, ConvertKit

  • Podcasting: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts

  • Blogging: WordPress, Medium, Blogger, MCWEN, Your Website

  • Video Content: YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok

Choosing the right marketing platform is crucial for your business's success. By seeking God's guidance and considering your natural strengths, ease of use, and desired results, you can find a platform that works for you.
